Mom's Oven-Barbecued Spareribs

Print Friendly and PDF

This recipe is for my Mom's Oven-Barbecued Spareribs. These ribs have a delicious lemony barbecue sauce. Whenever my mom made them, there were no leftovers. Pictured here are my mom and dad, Aya and Eddie Shimomura, of Seattle.

4 lbs pork ribs, cut in serving-size pieces
Salt and pepper (to taste)
1 lemon, thinly sliced
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 cup ketchup
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup worcestershire sauce
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp salt
1 dash tabasco sauce
1 cup water

Place ribs in a shallow roasting pan. Season with salt and pepper. Top ribs with sliced lemon and onion slices. Roast at 450 degrees for 30 minutes. Drain off excess fat. Add sauce. Reduce oven temperature to 350° and continue to roast ribs for 45-60 minutes longer, basting every 15 min.

Thank you so much for sharing these recipes! Many of them are similar to the ones I grew up with.

(We grew up in the same area--in fact, I believe our parents knew each other.)
